Many of you have been waiting patiently for more information about the cyberclass for Anasazi Song.  Well, the time has come!  I'm going to be offering the class under the glittering auspices of the Shining Needle Society.

If you are already an SNS member, skip down past this section.  If you are not yet a member, I'd like to introduce you to the Shining Needle Society, whose purpose is "to provide nurturing and inspiring opportunities for growth in the study of needlework, with the hope of continuing the legacy of embroidery art for future generations."

The SNS is a friendly, supportive group, recently inaugurated by Kate Gaunt and Marie Therese Baker  that 'seeks to provide connections for enthusiastic stitchers and the teachers who inspire them. Initial activities will be online support groups for exclusive or limited needlework classes.'

There are no dues for SNS (that's right, it's free!) and membership is open to all interested stitchers.  All you have to do to join is to email kategaunt@aol.com and ask to be included!  It will help if you put Shining Needle Society in the subject line so she'll know you aren't trying to send her money from Nigeria.  <g>

SNS is set up sort of like Needlework High School (without, of course, the cherry bombs in the boys' bathroom). You start out in Home Room.  This is an announcement list on which you receive an email when new classes are started. Information about the classes is stored in the group files. When you choose to take a class, you contact that teacher and deal with him or her direct.  (The teacher pays SNS a nominal fee per student for the use of the website and for the advertising opportunity, but you don't have to worry about that.) Each class has its own cyber-classroom (a Yahoo group), and only the people in the class are in the classroom.  Kate and Marie Therese have lined up some amazing classes with a variety of nationally known teachers (even me!). They started with the Gay Ann Rogers, the most popular teacher in the world, and then went on with Janet Zickler Casey's darling Santas.  And now it's my turn for the spotlight!  And it only gets better - I've seen the upcoming list and it's awesome.  I'm secretly glad to be at the early end of the rotation!  And the planning continues - if there's a teacher or a class you've always wanted to take and have never had the chance in person -- email Kate and Marie Therese.  They are quite open to requests and suggestions.  Everyone can't go to every seminar -- this is your chance to get that special class.

Back to Anasazi Song!  This is going to be fun!  This is one of my favorite seminar classes ever, but they've discontinued the canvas color (Tudor Rose) and, sadly, I'm going to have to retire the piece from my active teaching schedule.  However, I've bought up all the canvas I can find and I've got quite a bit set aside for this cyberclass.

There are files about the class in the SNS Home Room files, or you can look on my website, www.carolelake.com under Teaching Pieces to see the class description and a larger picture.  The online class starts March 1st and I'm putting together kits as fast as I can right now. My piece is stitched on Tudor rose 18-count canvas with Arabian Nights Watercolours, Kreinik #8 braid, overdyed floss, Impressions, Flair, Grandeur and Elegance. If I receive your payment by February 22nd, you'll have the kit by March 1st.  But -- remember that this is a cyber class -- you can do it in your jammies and at your own pace.  So no one will laugh at you if you want to put the kit in your stash!  The only pressure is that when I run out of canvas, it's over.

There are several ways to participate in this class:

1. Full kit, including canvas, threads, instructions, full-size color photocopy, shipping & handling and four months online support via SNS email list/group (group is private and open only to those members purchasing the project) is available for $100.  You provide stretcher bars 10" x 16".

2. Instructions only (you choose your own canvas color and threads), postage and four months online support via SNS email list/group is available for $35.

3. If you have already taken this class from me, you may audit it and participate in the four-month online support group. Contact me to make these arrangements. The cost is $10 to audit.

If you need more information, just email me.  Or you can simply put your check in the mail!  $100 for the complete kit, $35 for instructions only, and $10 to audit.

All the info you need to include is your email address and your mailing address.
You can also pay by PayPal, sent to lakeaustin@aol.com.

Additional information about the class and a color photo of the project are available in the Files section of the Shining Needle Society Home Room, or you can go look at my website, www.carolelake.com under Teaching Pieces.

Special note: The Tudor rose canvas for this project has been discontinued.  I have a good supply on hand for those purchasing the full kit. Those providing their own supplies will need to substitute another canvas color.

Another special note:  When I asked about moving my email list to Yahoo, there were a few of you who absolutely hated anything to do with Yahoo groups.  You may want to give it one more try because that's the only way to join the Shining Needle Society and receive notices of their classes!  And for those of you who said they had never been able to get through the Yahoo interface, Kate is a wizard at figuring out those problems (she has to be after getting over 700 SNS members registered!)  But even if you won't do a Yahoo group (or if you simply don't want the extra email), you can still sign up for Anasazi Song and I'll send you the lessons separately.  When you send me the money for your kit, be sure to make a big note (so I'll notice) that you want to be on the non-Yahoo list.

Any other questions?  Be sure to email me!  And -- looking ahead, the Specialty Stitches Notebook class starts in April.  It's only $30 and you can register for that any time.  Or -- here's a special deal for my email list -- if you buy the full kit or the instructions set for Anasazi Song, you can get Specialty Stitches Notebook for at a discount: $25, and I'll mail it at the same time as Anasazi Song.  See the class description here:

Did you get this far?  You are a dedicated reader!  I think this is the longest email newsletter I've ever sent!

Thanks for everything!
