Tramé
(pronounced tra-MAY) is a variation of the regular cross stitch, where a thread
is laid (red lines on chart) underneath the crosses (white lines). This can have
one of several purposes. It can be designed to give more texture, to cover the
canvas better or to give a shadow of a different color.
Even though your chart shows this under cross stitches over two, it can actually be done on any even-numbered cross. You may put several rows of tramé under a really large cross.
