Diagonal Roumanian StitchDiagonal Roumanian Stitch

This is a great diagonal stitch that covers well and shows off overdyed threads. It is balanced when it is stitched and doesn't distort the canvas since it has stitches going on both diagonals.

This stitch is great for flowers and grass, and also works well for stylized hair (slant it one way on one side and the other way on the other side). It also makes really nice angel wings worked in Rachel or Flair. Use it as a filling stitch on a painted canvas using a thin or transparent thread and letting the paint show through. It makes a lacy look when worked on white canvas in #8 white pearl cotton.

You can work this stitch in one or two colors; if you use two colors, you will probably need to work with two needles at once.
