Eyelets don't always
have to be square! This diamond eyelet worked over 10 threads looks very
different from its square relatives. You can vary this stitch, especially if you
are having trouble with coverage, by adding straight stitches or tent stitches
between the diamonds (in this case, it is called the Framed Diamond Eyelet).
These stitches have a lot of threads going down into the center hole, so be sure to widen the hole before you begin. You can also put a pearl or bead in the center to cover any unevenness!
This stitch makes a good border or background, and it's great for geometric designs. It has good color possibilities, and works well in solid or overdyed threads. It looks very good in alternating colors. Be careful not to pick a thread that is too thick, though, because you will have trouble keeping the stitch smooth.
