Double
Trellis StitchThis stitch has a nifty woven look. Here the stitches are long (over three intersections), so you can use a wide variety of threads. I used Rhapsody, which is the overdyed version of Flair, put out by Rainbow Gallery.
You usually work this stitch going across rows. You can also work it down the rows like backstitch, and by doing that you could create a true woven look for a basket. This stitch works great in shadow-dyed Velour for Santa's bag, making it look like expensive woven leather. I've also seen it used for flooring, giving the appearance of ceramic tile, and for angel wings in white metallic.
