This
is one of my favorite stitches to make a stripe. Start at the top of
the area and work down. If you make several rows together, work all the rows
from the top down.
Each stitch overlaps the previous stitch with two really long stitches (9 and 11).
NOTE: the first stitch, the top stitch on both rows of your diagram are compensating stitches, because you don't want those two long stitches sticking out into space.
Watch the numbering carefully. The first stitch is 1-2, over 4 threads, and comes up from the center hole. After that, all the stitches go down into the center hole from the outside.
Use a glossy thread for this stitch: pearl cotton, silk, Patina, ribbon and Flair all work really well. It works quickly; just be careful with your counting.
