Fancy Faces and Fur: Special Touches for Painted Canvases

Fancy Faces and Fur

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Intermediate, must know basketweave and Continental stitches
Technique: Painted Canvas Embellishment
Class Description: Make a notebook of stitch samples on the first day of this notebook/brainstorming class, learning, among other things, seven kinds of knots plus four kinds of 'turkey work'. We will discuss naturalistic, whimsical and abstract shading for faces and fur, as well as 'styling' hair. Fur techniques will cover both the type of fur used for cuffs and coats, as well as that of animals.. The notebook will provide a reference resource that will be constantly useful to the student after class.

On the second day of the class, we will brainstorm stitches for faces, mustaches, beards and fur on actual painted canvases brought by the students. During this class discussion, students who are prepared to do so may actually start stitching on the relevant area of their canvases.

Kit Cost: $45.00
Student to Supply: Two sets of stretcher bars, usual stitching supplies including a laying tool and an assortment of needles, a binder notebook and page protectors, and a painted canvas with a face or fur 'problem area' to discuss in class.
Pre-Class Work: None
